In our largest cabin, a good night’s sleep is part of the holiday luxury.

The Alcove: Features two high-quality MATRI Hilja beds that can be arranged either as a comfortable double bed or as two separate single beds.

Living Room: A cozy futon sofa bed provides comfortable sleeping space for two.

The Loft: Features two futons. Please note that the loft has a lower ceiling and is best suited for one adult or two older children. 

In the cozy kitchen, you can brew your morning coffee, prepare delicious meals, and gather around the table for memorable moments together.

The kitchen is equipped with a fridge-freezer, a small stove, a coffee maker and kettle, a thermos, and a microwave. Beautiful wine glasses and a carafe are also provided for your evenings.

The living area features a dining table, a comfortable sofa, a hanging indoor swing chair, a wardrobe—and a TV for cozy movie nights.

Whenever we are around, we are more than happy to guide you into local life, answer your questions, and help arrange unforgettable experiences—such as reindeer farm visits, husky safaris, or renting skis, snowshoes, canoe and fishing rods. We are always glad to share our best tips for a successful Lapland journey.

Food and Dining: Guests prepare their own meals in the cabin, but upon prior agreement, I can sometimes prepare breakfast, lunch, or dinner for you—or even better, we can cook together in my traditional wooden house!

As the evening cools down, light a fire in the wood-burning stove and let the cabin fill with the comforting warmth and soothing crackle of the flames. The cabin is heated using firewood from our own forest, with an electric heater available for extra warmth if needed. Firewood is included in your stay—it represents a lot of hard work, so please use it thoughtfully.

Your stay includes a sauna session every other evening in our traditional wood-heated log sauna by the lake. Gentle steam (löyly), a refreshing dip in the lake or snow/ice hole, and a peaceful evening are essential parts of the Metsä Kolo experience. Sauna schedules are arranged on-site, and by agreement, you are also welcome to heat the sauna yourself. We are always happy to share more about Finnish sauna traditions and etiquette.

At Metsä Kolo, we savor the taste of pure nature. The fresh drinking water for your cabin is fetched from our yard’s own well using a traditional milk can. It is all part of authentic cabin life, where even the smallest daily chores bring their own calming rhythm to the day.

Here, not everything comes at the push of a button—and therein lies the true charm of Metsä Kolo.

On the terrace, you can enjoy your morning coffee, admire the lake scenery, or simply linger outside while listening to the sounds of nature. The terrace is furnished with a table, chairs, and a bench.

Located right on the cabin’s terrace is a beautifully crafted, wood-built eco-composting toilet featuring two windows that open up to stunning lake views. Chemical-free, sustainable, and with a view—your holiday choice leaves nothing behind but footprints. Mother Nature approves!

Capacity & Sleeping: Cabin M1 accommodates up to six guests. Please note that the loft has a lower ceiling and is best suited for one adult or two older children. The sleeping alcove features blackout curtains, and the cabin is adorned with soft linen curtains. An electric heater is available for extra warmth if needed, and the TV offers standard channels. You will also find books in the bookshelf to enjoy during your stay (for reading on-site).

Sauna & Facilities: Your stay includes a sauna session every other evening in our traditional wood-heated lakeside log sauna. Please note that the cabin does not have its own indoor shower, bathroom, or running tap water.

Parking & Car Heating: You can park your car right next to or behind the cabin—we have plenty of space, and an engine block heater outlet is also available.

Groceries & Kitchen Supplies: The nearest grocery store is located in the center of Ranua, about 29 km away. The kitchen cupboards are stocked with salt, pepper, dish soap, and coffee filters. We kindly ask you to sort your waste into compostable, metal, paper, plastic, and mixed waste.

Water & Restroom: Fresh drinking water is carried from the yard’s own well, and the restroom is a bio-composting eco-toilet located on the terrace. As mentioned, there is no indoor toilet, bathroom, or running water in the cabin.

Our Resident Dog: At the Metsä Kolo main house, you might cross paths with Tove—our playful and friendly, though large-sized, dog.

Practical Details: The final cleaning fee is 60 EUR, including luxury bed linen, towels, firewood, and VAT. Cabin M1 is reserved for our two-legged guests only.
